H.O.M.E. provides the opportunity for ALL parents to focus on their own well-being and mindset amidst parenting challenges. It provides actionable strategies and techniques while addressing specific parenting needs. "H.O.M.E." encourages parents to Hone, Own, Master and Enact new skills to make their home a healthy option for their child, no matter where they are in the treatment process.
H.O.M.E., Strategies for Making Home a SUCCESS During and After Treatment, is a reminder for parents that now is the best time to make changes to secure their family's health and future.
The Following Your Path Journal is a 6-week journal for adolescents and young adults who are returning home from wilderness treatment, therapeutic boarding school, residential treatment or transitional living.
The journal encourages engagement with the skills learned in treatment and helps navigate challenging situations and times that will arise at home. Engaging in this daily journal and responding to the prompts within promotes continued insight and increased self-awareness and helps adolescents and young adults to truly find approaches needed to sustain the work they have invested in and to find the strength and the support needed to thrive.
After supporting hundreds of families, we identified key patterns that inspired us to codify our insights to help families thrive at home. Our distinct coaching approaches guide parents along the H.O.M.E. continuum, empowering them to sustain personal growth through self-assessment.
To aid this process, we created a model with specific self-reflection questions and empowering language to help parents navigate challenges and apply new skills. Even a basic understanding of the H.O.M.E. Model offers valuable insights. Our book explores the model in depth and includes "Nuggets of Knowledge" to provide practical tools for fostering a successful home environment.
HONE
When you hone your skills, you deepen your understanding of the situation and its underlying factors for yourself and others. This process clarifies the skills you need to learn through data collection and collaboration; while also helping you develop effective communication, relationship, and parenting skills, along with clear goal-setting and expectations.
OWN
Ownership is essential for understanding what you can control. This clarity empowers you to focus your energy effectively. In this step, you clarify the skills you want to own, confront challenges, and recognize the need for change in your relationships and parenting.
MASTER
Learning and practicing essential tools and skills, helps you gain greater clarity and confidence in understanding why they work. This mastery allows you to apply these strategies effectively, enhancing your ability to navigate challenges and strengthen relationships within your family. As you develop your skills, you'll cultivate a deeper sense of empowerment and capability in your parenting journey.
ENACT
As you master new skills, aim to put them into action regularly with clarity and confidence. By taking proactive steps within your control—regardless of your child’s behavior—you can positively influence the tone of your home. This empowerment fosters better communication and strengthens family relationships. Consistent practice solidifies these skills, leading to lasting change and harmony in your household.
